Sag Harbor fifth graders bring history to life in wax museum

Blending art and history, Sag Harbor Elementary School’s fifth graders recently captivated the community with their annual wax museum presentation. The much-anticipated event featured students dressed in full costume – complete with props –
portraying influential historical and contemporary figures.
The project encouraged students to choose individuals, past or present, who have made a significant impact on society. Through extensive research and creative expression, they transformed into living wax figures, ready to educate and inspire their audience.
“The wax museum is a rite of passage for every fifth grader,” said Liz Pellicano, a fifth grade teacher at Sag Harbor Elementary. “It’s a long-awaited project rooted in research, enhanced with creativity, and it instills perseverance and grit as students pose as wax figurines for the greater Sag Harbor community.”
Notable portrayals included Ruby Fisher as Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, Landon Tolley as Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere and Frances Parton as country music’s most awarded woman Loretta Lynn, among many other presentations.
The event not only showcased students' academic skills but also celebrated their imagination and poise, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
